Dr. White did a great job explaining PAE to me. I am now feeling better from BPH thanks to the crew at USA Prostate Centers!
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common, non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that can lead to uncomfortable urinary symptoms, including a persistent feeling of bladder pressure. As the prostate enlarges, it compresses the urethra, the tube through which urine flows, creating a partial obstruction. This can make the bladder work harder to expel urine, resulting in a sensation of pressure or fullness and frequent urges to urinate.
Bladder pressure refers to a feeling of discomfort, fullness, or an urgent need to urinate, often described as a pressure or heaviness in the lower abdomen. While men of all ages can experience bladder pressure, it is particularly common among older men, often linked to conditions affecting the prostate or urinary system.
Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive treatment option for men with BPH who experience significant bladder pressure and other urinary symptoms. Rather than surgically removing prostate tissue, PAE reduces prostate size by restricting its blood supply. By blocking the blood flow to specific arteries feeding the prostate, the prostate gradually shrinks, relieving the obstruction on the urethra and alleviating bladder pressure.
How PAE Works: Under local anesthesia, a small catheter is inserted into an artery in the groin or wrist, navigated to the arteries supplying the prostate, and then embolic agents (small particles) are injected. These agents block the blood flow, which reduces the prostate size over time, allowing urine to flow more freely.
While PAE offers significant benefits, it may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals with severe BPH symptoms or other complicating factors should consult with a healthcare provider to discuss if PAE is a good fit. Proper diagnostic imaging and assessment are essential to identify the best treatment pathway for each patient.
To explore PAE as a treatment option, a comprehensive diagnosis is essential. USA Prostate Centers specialize in minimally invasive solutions like PAE, offering expert guidance and diagnostic services tailored to each patient’s specific symptoms. Their experienced team can help determine the most effective treatment to alleviate bladder pressure and other BPH-related symptoms. With advanced technology and a patient-centered approach, USA Prostate Centers provide a comfortable and effective route toward long-term relief.
